Christmas Mini Sessions in Toronto 2026: Everything You Need to Know Before Booking
Christmas may feel far away, but the holiday magic starts much earlier for photographers! Every year, Christmas Mini Sessions in Toronto 2026 become one of my favourite traditions at Memories by Alexa Photography. They are filled with beautiful Christmas sets, excited little ones, festive outfits, and plenty of holiday magic.
More importantly, these sessions give families an opportunity to pause during one of the busiest seasons of the year.
Because somehow, another Christmas arrives. The kids are another year older. And you find yourself wondering — how did another year pass so quickly?
Your annual Christmas family photos become more than photographs. They document how your children have grown and how your family has changed from one Christmas to the next.

For Christmas Mini Sessions in Toronto 2026, I am bringing families several beautiful studio experiences across Toronto, Pickering, Whitby and the Greater Toronto Area.
Please see here my Article on this year’s sets: 2026 Christmas Studios.
If you are thinking about booking a Christmas photography session this year, here is everything you need to know before choosing yours.
What Are Christmas Mini Sessions?
A Christmas Mini Session is a shorter photography experience created specifically for the holiday season.
Unlike a traditional family photography session, Christmas Minis take place on selected dates and feature professionally styled holiday sets.
Sessions are intentionally short and efficient. However, we can still create a beautiful variety of Christmas portraits during our time together.

You can expect a combination of:
- Family portraits
- Sibling photographs
- Individual portraits of the children
- Natural interactions
- Traditional posed Christmas photographs
- A little silliness and Christmas magic!
My goal is always to create images that feel beautiful now but will also become part of your family’s Christmas memories.
Why Book Christmas Mini Sessions in Toronto Early?
If you already know you want Christmas photos this year, booking early is always my biggest recommendation.
Christmas Mini Sessions take place during a very short photography season. Therefore, there are only a limited number of sessions available at each studio.
Popular weekend dates and session times can book particularly quickly.
Booking your 2026 Toronto Christmas Mini Session early also gives you plenty of time to plan outfits and prepare your children.
Most importantly, photographing your family earlier gives you time to receive your photographs before Christmas.
That means you can use your favourite images for Christmas cards, ornaments, prints and gifts for grandparents.
When Do Christmas Mini Sessions Take Place?
Although we call them Christmas sessions, most professional Christmas photography sessions in Toronto take place well before December 25.
There is a good reason for that!
Your photographs need time to be professionally edited and delivered. Families may also want enough time to order Christmas cards, prints and holiday gifts.
Therefore, planning your session earlier in the season makes the entire experience much more relaxed.
It also means that when December arrives, one item is already checked off your Christmas list!

Christmas Mini Sessions Across Toronto & the GTA
One of the things I love most about my 2026 Christmas Mini Sessions in Toronto is the variety.
Instead of offering only one Christmas backdrop, this year’s sessions include several beautiful studio environments and holiday styles.
Families can choose from sessions in and around Toronto, Pickering, Whitby and the Greater Toronto Area, depending on the date and Christmas set they prefer.
Some sets are light, airy and whimsical. Others are elegant, cozy or traditional.
This allows you to choose a Christmas photography experience that feels most like your family.
Whether you love neutral Christmas décor, classic holiday colours or an elaborate Christmas setting, there is something special to choose from this year.
How Do I Choose the Best Christmas Set for My Family?

Start by thinking about the style you naturally love.
If your home is filled with neutral décor, you may prefer a soft Christmas set with whites, creams and natural textures.
If you love traditional Christmas photographs, look for sets featuring deeper greens, reds, trees and classic holiday details.
You should also think about what your family plans to wear.
Your outfits and the Christmas set should complement one another rather than compete for attention.
Most importantly, choose the set that makes you excited.
These photographs will live in your home long after the Christmas decorations have been packed away.
What Should We Wear for Christmas Mini Sessions?

This is probably one of the questions I receive most often!
Start with the Christmas set you selected. Then choose two or three coordinating colours for your family’s wardrobe.
Cream, beige, soft brown, white, dusty rose, forest green, burgundy and muted holiday tones photograph beautifully.
Textures can also add interest. Think knits, velvet, linen, wool and subtle layers.
However, try to avoid dressing everyone in identical outfits.
Instead, coordinate colours and textures while allowing everyone to look like themselves.
Please see below the link to my Pinterest Board for visuals on how to coordinate your Christmas Portraits:

I also recommend avoiding very large logos, neon colours and extremely busy patterns. These can distract attention away from your family’s faces.
Above all, make sure your children are comfortable.
A beautiful outfit isn’t worth much if your little one cannot move, play or cuddle comfortably!
Should Everyone Wear Matching Christmas Pajamas?

Absolutely — if that feels like your family!
Matching Christmas pajamas can be adorable for cozy Christmas sets.
However, they are certainly not required.
For a more timeless look, coordinated dressy outfits often photograph beautifully and can make your portraits easier to display throughout your home.
Some families even choose both looks if their selected session allows enough time.
Whatever you choose, the most important thing is that your wardrobe works well with your chosen Christmas set.
How Do I Prepare My Children for Christmas Photos?

Please don’t spend the drive to your session telling your children they have to smile.
I promise, we don’t need perfect behaviour to create beautiful photographs.
Instead, tell them you are going somewhere fun to take Christmas pictures.
Keep the experience positive and relaxed.
Before your session, make sure younger children have eaten and are well rested whenever possible.
For babies and toddlers, bringing a favourite comfort item can also help.
And if your child needs a few minutes to warm up when they arrive, that’s completely okay.
As a mom of three, I understand that children have their own personalities, moods and ideas!
We will work with them rather than expecting perfection.
Sometimes the unexpected moments become the photographs parents love most.
What If My Child Doesn’t Smile?
This is another question parents ask all the time.
Your child does not need to smile in every photograph.
Some of my favourite family portraits include quiet expressions, cuddles, giggles, kisses and little moments between siblings.
I will encourage interaction and movement throughout your session whenever possible.
The goal isn’t simply to photograph everyone looking at the camera.
The goal is to capture your family at this moment in time.
And yes — we will certainly try for that beautiful everyone-looking-at-the-camera Christmas card photograph too!
What If My Child Is Shy or Needs Extra Time?
Every child is different.
Some children walk into the studio ready to perform. Others need time to observe their surroundings before feeling comfortable.
Both are completely normal.
Please feel free to let me know before your session if your child is shy, sensitive to new environments, or may need a different approach.
The more I know about your family beforehand, the better I can prepare.
My goal is for your Christmas photography experience to feel welcoming and enjoyable for everyone.
Can We Include the Whole Family?
Yes!
Christmas Mini Sessions aren’t only for photographs of the children.
They are an opportunity to document your entire family.
Parents, please get in the photographs.
I know how easy it is to tell yourself that you only need pictures of the kids.
However, years from now, your children will want photographs with you too.
Your family Christmas portraits document the relationships, cuddles and connections that make this season meaningful.
What Happens During a Christmas Mini Session?
Christmas Minis move quickly, but don’t worry — I will guide you throughout the entire session.
When you arrive, we will get everyone settled and ready.
From there, I will guide your family through different combinations and poses.
Depending on the session and your family, we may photograph everyone together before moving into sibling and individual portraits.
I will also encourage natural interactions whenever possible.
Cuddle your babies.
Tickle your children.
Look at each other.
Laugh.
Those little moments often create the most meaningful photographs.
What Happens After Your Christmas Photography Session?
After your session, your online family photography proof gallery will be prepared for you and you will be able to download all images, color corrected.
You will be able to view your portraits from home and select your favourite images if your package includes enhanced edits.
Once you submit your selections, your chosen photographs will receive their final professional retouching.
Then comes the best part — receiving your finished Christmas photographs!
Turn Your Christmas Photos Into Holiday Keepsakes
Please don’t let your favourite Christmas photographs live only on your phone or computer.
Christmas portraits make wonderful keepsakes and gifts.
Consider turning your photographs into:
- Christmas cards
- Framed prints
- Christmas tree ornaments
- Gifts for grandparents
- Holiday wall art
- Albums
- Prints for family members
There is something incredibly special about pulling out an ornament every December and seeing your children when they were tiny.
Those photographs become part of your family’s Christmas traditions.
When Should I Order Christmas Cards?
As soon as your final photographs are ready!
November and December become extremely busy for professional print labs and delivery companies.
Ordering early gives you enough time to receive your cards, address them and send them before Christmas.
Christmas cards can be ordered directly through your gallery after your final images are delivered.
Christmas tree ornaments are also available and make beautiful keepsakes or gifts for grandparents.
Are Christmas Mini Sessions Worth It?
If you love documenting your children as they grow, absolutely.
Christmas Mini Sessions give you a consistent way to photograph your family every year.
One Christmas, your baby may barely be sitting.
The next year, they are running through the studio.
Then suddenly, they’re standing beside you looking much older than you remember.
That is why I love annual family photography.
You aren’t simply taking Christmas pictures.
You are creating a visual history of your family.
Who Are Christmas Mini Sessions Perfect For?
Christmas Mini Sessions are wonderful for families who want beautiful holiday portraits without committing to a full-length family session.
They are especially perfect for:
- Families with young children
- Returning families documenting another Christmas
- Families creating annual Christmas cards
- Parents looking for meaningful gifts for grandparents
- Siblings
- Babies celebrating their first Christmas
- Families wanting updated portraits before the end of the year
And yes — parents should absolutely join the photographs!
