The key for a successful Cake Smash Session – is to prepare you and your little one accordingly, to ensure they give us the best smiles!

Here are some tips and tricks to ensure you have a successful First Birthday Photography Session, with lots of smiles:

1. Let your child try cake five days before the session so they are use to what cake taste like.
2. Let your child play with a cupcake four days before the session so they can get use to digging in the cake and feeding them self cake.
3. Let your child play with frosting few days before the session so they can get use to the feel of frosting. Some children do not like new sensory experiences and do not want to touch the cake.

Also – well rested babies are less fussy – if they skip their nap they can become fussy and upset.

Comfort Items

Often babies get scared because they are at a new location that they are unfamiliar with. Here are few items and tips I recommend you bring along so your little one will feel more comfortable:
1. Favorite toy.
2. Favorite book.
3. Bring a pacifier if your baby uses one, just in case

What to bring with you on session day

Make sure you bring with you these few items at home:
– wipes and extra diapers
– their cup for water (they will get thirsty from all that frosting and yummy cake)
– non messy snacks (DO NOT bring or give your baby Chocolate – this will make him/her extra fussy)
– comb and any special items you wish we incorporate in the session (a tutu, a dress, a toy that goes with the theme etc.)
– a change of clothes for you (you will get messy, too)!

The best time to schedule your Cake Smash Session is 3-4 weeks prior their birthday party, to ensure you will have the images ready for you to post and brag about your little cutie that is turning 1 year old! Typically, all sessions last maximum 1 hour (as your baby won’t last longer) – and are the most fun! All my sessions include Family Photography – so you will have these sweet memories forever!
